My name is Helena. I started The Pocket Pet Project following the creation of my vegan sanctuary in 2023 that consisted of primarily a flock of rescued chickens. As time passed, I took in more animals, many of whom were small rodents such as hamsters, mice and rats. After witnessing such neglect, I created this site to a) find good homes for them, b) provide antispeciesist, value-driven guidance on small animal care.

I believe that in changing the relationships we have with animals, we can become more responsible and compassionate caregivers to our small companions. I would like to see a world in which we recognize the intrinsic value of animals and reject the notion that they exist solely for human benefit.
